I / DAL BHAT
Dal (lentil soup) and bhat (rice) at the centre, sides and achar around them, on one plate. Served here as the thali set (¥1,200) — and the house style crowns the rice with a fried egg.

Hyakunincho, Shinjuku. A two-minute walk from Okubo Station, five from Shin-Okubo. One tandoor serves two countries — Indian and Nepali cooking. Tandoor-baked dishes, dal bhat, momo, biryani, ten kinds of naan. Open straight through from eleven in the morning to eleven at night.
III / THE STORY
No record gives the founding year. Regulars' blogs remember when a dal bhat set cost one coin — 500 yen. The house rule, confirmed across food diaries: a fried egg goes on top of the rice. In the winter of 2022 the shop moved once, then returned to its original spot in Hyakunincho by the end of that year. From eleven in the morning to night, the tandoor and the dal bhat carry on.
“Wrapped Tibetan-style, like gyoza — juicy broth spills out from inside. Delicious.”
